None of them can all be right. So let’s skip the banner language and talk about what actually matters.

PU CET Law is Panjab University’s own entrance exam for admission to its law programmes, run through UILS, the University Institute of Legal Studies, along with the regional centres in Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur. The 5-year programme exam, for BA LLB (Hons.) and B.Com LLB (Hons.), currently runs as 100 MCQs in 90 minutes, offline, OMR-based, with a quarter mark deducted for every wrong answer. It tests Legal Aptitude, General Knowledge, Reasoning and English. No prior legal knowledge required, which is the part a lot of nervous 12th graders don’t realize until someone tells them directly.

Eligibility is straightforward too. A pass in 10+2 from a recognised board, 45% aggregate for general category, 40% for SC/ST/BC/PwD. The Bar Council of India has also removed the upper age limit for both the 3-year and 5-year law programmes, so age is no longer a barrier the way it used to be for older aspirants.

Why “PU CET Coaching” and “CLAT Coaching” Aren’t the Same Thing

A lot of institutes in Chandigarh sell one course and call it prep for both CLAT and PU CET Law. That’s a shortcut, and it shows in results. CLAT leans heavily on reading comprehension and applied legal reasoning across long passages. PU CET Law is faster-paced, more direct, and rewards a student who can move through aptitude and reasoning questions quickly and accurately under strict negative marking.

They overlap, sure. Legal aptitude and reasoning show up in both. But a student training purely for CLAT-style long passages can actually underperform on PU CET’s quicker, more clipped question format, simply because the pacing muscle is different. The reverse is also true. This is worth asking any coaching center directly: are they teaching PU CET Law as its own exam, or is it a rebranded slice of a bigger CLAT batch?

What “Best” Should Actually Mean

A few things separate a genuinely good PU CET Law programme from a banner claim.

Batch size matters more than most people admit. A room of eighty students getting the same generic lecture isn’t coaching, it’s a recorded video with a live audience. Question review matters even more than batch size. If nobody’s sitting with a student and walking through exactly why an answer was wrong, whether it was a concept gap or a timing mistake, the mock test is just a number on a page.

Up-to-date material matters too, and this is where a lot of smaller centers cut corners. PU CET’s eligibility rules and exam pattern do shift, as they did with the BCI’s age limit change, so a coaching program using three-year-old notes and unchanged question banks isn’t doing its students any favours.

Where We Fit In, Honestly

At Edvantage, in Sector 22 B, we run PU CET Law as its own track, not a leftover slice of the CLAT batch. That means separate practice sets built around the 90-minute, 100-question format, timed mocks that mirror the actual negative marking, and one-on-one review sessions where a student’s paper gets looked at line by line, not just scored and handed back.

We’d rather tell you plainly what the programme covers than throw a superlative at you. If you want to sit in on a class before deciding, come do that. It’s a more honest way to judge a coaching center than any banner claim.

For students weighing PU’s law programmes more broadly, including what the university itself offers beyond the entrance exam, our earlier piece on why choose Panjab University for law covers the 5-year and 3-year routes in detail. And if you’re specifically aiming for UILS admission, we’ve broken that down separately in our UILS coaching guide.

One Thing to Keep in Mind

Exam dates, eligibility percentages and pattern details are revised by Panjab University from year to year, so always check the current notification on the official UILS admission portal before you finalize a preparation timeline. What stays constant is that PU CET Law rewards speed and accuracy under pressure, and that’s exactly what a proper mock-test-driven programme should be building.

Type “PU law coaching in Chandigarh” into Google and you’ll get a dozen institutes claiming to be the best.
